Nestled in the heart of Andalusia, the village of Almanzora is one of the closest spots to our off-grid farm. This beautiful rural location is rich in history, natural beauty, and a deep-rooted agricultural tradition. In our latest video, we take you on a journey through Almanzora, exploring everything from historic landmarks to vibrant markets and scenic cycling routes. Read on for a sneak peek of what makes this village so special!
A Step Back in Time: Palacio de Almanzora
One of Almanzora’s most remarkable landmarks is the Palacio de Almanzora, a breathtaking neoclassical palace built in the late 1800s by the Marquis of Almanzora, a prominent figure in the region’s marble trade. Though it has been silent for decades, plans are in place to restore it as a cultural hub. Its grand columns and historic architecture are a reminder of the village’s storied past and a must-see for history lovers.
Panoramic Views of the Valle del Almanzora
From the vantage points around the village, you can soak in stunning views of the valley, rolling hills, and lush greenery. On clear days, the Sierra Almahilla mountains frame the picturesque landscape, adding to the natural beauty that makes this region so special. Whether you’re a nature enthusiast or simply looking for a peaceful retreat, this area offers a perfect escape.
Almanzora’s Vintage Charm
While wandering the village streets, we came across a classic VW parked in the heart of town, a testament to the village’s rich history and enduring charm. It’s these small details—like old vehicles, rustic architecture, and traditional market stalls—that make Almanzora a delightful place to explore.
Fresh, Local Produce at Almanzora’s Market
No visit to Almanzora is complete without stopping by its local market, where farmers offer fresh fruits and vegetables straight from the land. The region has been a hub for agriculture for centuries, dating back to Moorish times, and today, you can still taste the quality of farm-to-table produce. There’s nothing quite like the flavour of freshly picked fruits and vegetables!
Cycling the Via Verde: A Scenic Adventure
For adventure lovers, the Via Verde bike trail is a must-visit. This 50km route follows an old mining railway, winding through desert hills, abandoned mines, and rugged landscapes. Being so close to our farm, we often see cyclists enjoying this breathtaking ride. Whether you’re a seasoned rider or a casual explorer, this route offers an unforgettable experience.
Community Spirit & Local Cuisine
Almanzora’s community park is a hub for locals and nearby farmers, including us! It’s the perfect spot for a relaxing barbecue, where people gather to cook, socialise, and enjoy the Andalusian sunshine. When it comes to dining, the local restaurants serve up fresh, hearty meals made with ingredients grown in the valley. It’s a true taste of Andalusia, rich in flavour and tradition.
